Epsilon Energia Solar (EES) is a company that distributes and finances small solar systems in rural Mozambique. The business model combines last mile distribution, connected equipment, mobile money and effective credit management to deliver a Pay-As-You-Go service to bottom of the pyramid households.

Respected Mozambican investors Epsilon, Graca Machel’s foundation FDC and experienced solar financing investor and manager Kevin Kennedy have created Epsilon Energia Solar to bring the next generation solar energy and digital financial services to households and businesses in rural Mozambique and subsequently Southern Africa.

Pilot activities have started with a target of reaching at least 2000 households within 12 months, and to set up all the operational and systems aspects for a successful PAYGO company. Commercialisation and scaling is planned for 2019 with a view to reaching 100,000 customers plus within 3 years.  While the anchor product is PAYGO solar, additional products such as solar home systems and water pumps will be piloted.  Epsilon Energia also intends to be the partner of choice for commercial and development activities in rural areas where financing at household or smallholder level is required
